“So beautiful”

Vineyard Notes

Morisoli Vineyard consists of 53 contiguous acres on the famed Rutherford Bench in the Napa Valley. Gary Morisoli is the fourth generation of his family to grow grapes on this historic property, which has been family-farmed for over 100 years. Primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, the fruit from this vineyard is some of the most sought after in the Napa Valley. Surrounded by Staglin Family Vineyard, Scarecrow, Joseph Phelps Vineyards and Inglenook, Morisoli Vineyard fruit exhibits classic “Rutherford Dust” qualities and rich Cabernet Sauvignon character.

Winemaking Notes

The 2023 Morisoli Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon opens with beautifully lifted aromatics of wild bramble, fresh blackberries, and lush blueberries — a hallmark of this celebrated Rutherford site. On the palate, the wine is remarkably balanced and refined, with smooth, polished tannins that glide effortlessly across the palate. Vibrant dark ripe cherry fruit takes center stage, framed by a compelling gravelly minerality that speaks directly to the vineyard’s distinctive terroir. Pure and focused acidity provides wonderful energy and structure, carrying the wine through an exceptionally long and elegant finish. A truly classic expression of Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon at its finest — approachable now but with the depth and structure to cellar beautifully for two decades or more.

So beautiful, showing blackcurrants, blackberries and violets with some licorice character. Medium-bodied with a racy, refined and textured finish with seamlessly integrated and polished tannins. Already gorgeous. Drink or hold.

From a great vineyard on the west side of Rutherford and aged 19 months in 100% new French oak, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Morisoli Vineyard shows darker black fruits, crushed walnuts, smoke, chocolate, and scorched earth-like aromatics. Full-bodied on the palate, it has a deep, pure, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. I love it today, but it will keep for at least 20 years. Drink 2025-2045.

Decanter

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from Morisoli Vineyard and aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak. Planted in 1995, the vines are Clone 4 on 039-16 rootstock. The vineyard’s signature comes through clearly in the wine’s density and richness, supported by a strong tannic structure that reads as velvety and cocoa-powdered rather than overtly firm. Mineral depth is a defining feature, evoking graphite and wet slate, all building toward a full-bodied expression of depth, power, and textural refinement.
