Vineyard Notes

Napa pioneer Dr. George Belden Crane originally planted Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard in 1858. During the 1920’s the Chinatown of the City of St. Helena was located on the site. Acquired by Beckstoffer Vineyards in 1997, the vineyard’s gravelly loam soils were replanted in 1998 to multiple clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.

Winemaking Notes

The 2023 Amici Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a pure, supple expression of this storied St. Helena site. The nose lifts with red berries, violets, and crème de cassis, offering a vibrant, perfumed introduction. On the palate, the wine is soft and inviting, with sweet, toasty oak framing flavors of cherry cordial and dark chocolate. The overall impression is one of clarity and finesse, with Dr. Crane’s hallmark purity carrying through to a long, seamless finish.

The 2023 Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, all clone 4, aged in 100% new Taransaud barrels. Deep garnet-purple colored, it charges out with powerful notes of crème de cassis, red currant preserves, and candied violets, leading to hints of pencil lead, mint tea, and fragrant soil. Full-bodied, the palate is so good and intense it makes you want to cry—the tension and tannin ripeness are beyond fault, with dense fruit and floral layers, finishing with epic length.

Dark fruit, including blackcurrants, as well as violets and subtle stone undertones. Full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins and a muscular finish. Polished and well formed. Better in two or three years.
