2021 Amici Hyde Pinot Noir

James Suckling

“An impressive and racy wine”

Vineyard Notes

The 200-acre Hyde Vineyard, considered one of California’s Grand Cru vineyards, includes one of the oldest blocks of Chardonnay grapes. Carneros has always been considered prime land for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The shallower soil and cooler climates of Carneros result in smaller vines, grapes that turn into brighter, more ethereal wines.

Winemaking Notes

The 2021 Amici Hyde Vineyard Pinot Noir is a wine that truly captures the essence of Carneros. On the nose, it reveals an enticing blend of strawberry, raspberry, cherry liqueur, and a subtle earthy tone. The palate is equally captivating, with rich and layered flavors of chocolate-covered cherries, brown sugar, and cocoa. Wonderful depth and character lead to a long and memorable finish.

James Suckling

“Very structured with very fine tannins that run the length of the wine, showing black fruit, graphite and blue fruits. Medium- to full-bodied with a compacted character. Deep. An impressive and racy wine. Drink after 2025 but already great to taste.”

Jeb Dunnuck

“Fermented with 5-10% stems, the 2021 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard offers up a gorgeous nose of mulberries, violets, spring flowers, and sassafras. With medium-bodied richness, a layered, balanced mouthfeel, and outstanding length, it’s going to be another gem from this team.”

The Wine Independent

“Medium to deep ruby-purple in color, the 2021 Hyde Vineyard Pinot Noir bursts with bold notes of Morello cherries, raspberry coulis, and fresh blackberries with hints of lavender, charcoal, and underbrush. The medium to full-bodied palate is firm and taut, with muscular black berry flavors framed by firm, grainy tannins, finishing long and lifted.”

Vinous Media

“The 2021 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard is a powerful, deep Napa Valley Pinot. It shows all the classic Hyde signatures. Dark red/purplish fruit, game, incense, tobacco, dried herbs and earthiness are nicely pushed forward. Overall, the 2021 is pretty soft for a Hyde Pinot, but all the elements are nicely balanced.”
