“Great texture and balancing acidity”

Vineyard Notes

The 200-acre Hyde Vineyard, considered one of California’s Grand Cru vineyards, includes one of the oldest blocks of Chardonnay grapes. Carneros has always been considered prime land for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The shallower soil and cooler climates of Carneros result in smaller vines and grapes that turn into bright, ethereal wines.

Winemaking Notes

Located on the Napa side of the Carneros AVA, Hyde Vineyard is truly one of California’s grand cru Chardonnay vineyards and a site that parallels the quality and prestige of our single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon portfolio. The 2019 is lively and driven by vibrant acidity, featuring tangerine and spearmint notes on the nose. The textured palate features a roasted grain and rye entry followed by hints of orange zest and wet stone that carry through the long, dense finish.

“All Wente clone, the 2019 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is another brilliant wine from Jesse Fox and Tony Biagi. First made in 2017 and from a site in Carneros, it saw full malolactic fermentation and 11 months in 40% new François Frères barrels. Classic California notes of lemon curd, caramelized citrus, flower oil, and honeysuckle all define the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a great texture and balancing acidity. It’s beautifully done and ideal for drinking over the coming 4-6 years.”

Pretty nose of hawthorn, praline, dried apple, white peach, lemon pith and cedar. Full-bodied with fresh acidity. Creamy and elegant. Smoked almonds and crushed stones on the mineral finish. Long and oily at the end. Drink or hold.
