“Full-bodied, muscular palate”

Vineyard Notes

Cimarossa Vineyard is the first vineyard in the Amici portfolio to come from the Howell Mountain AVA in Napa Valley. The vineyard’s name is a nod to owner Dino Dina’s Italian heritage, as well as the site’s volcanic terroir, as Cimarossa translates to “Red Hilltop” in Italian. Planted in 1997, the vineyard’s 15 planted acres range in elevation from 1600-2100 ft and produce vines with small berries with concentrated flavors.

Winemaking Notes

Our first vintage from this beautiful Howell Mountain vineyard site, the 2019 Cimarossa Cabernet Sauvignon shows off the region’s classic mountain complexity. The nose is immediately filled with ripe cherry and blackberry pie filling notes, followed by intense flavors of plum and dark chocolate, which lead into hints of sweet vanilla bean on the palate. The massive, yet polished tannins show beautifully throughout the long finish and are accompanied by a pleasant earthy quality.

Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Cimarossa Vineyard displays a deep garnet-purple color. It leaps from the glass with lifted red and black currant preserves notes plus suggestions of black raspberries, ripe plums, candied violets and tapenade. The full-bodied, muscular palate is firm and rugged at this youthful stage, delivering a refreshing line and long, earthy/tarry finish. (Tasted as a barrel sample.)

Also all varietal, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Cimarossa comes from a site on Howell Mountain and has textbook notes of red plums, blackberries, tobacco, chocolate, and sappy flower and foresty notes. Full-bodied on the palate, it has plenty of tannins, good balance, and a great finish. Drink it over the coming 15-20 years.

Vinous

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Cimarossa, from a site on Howell Mountain is loaded with complexity. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, licorice and lavender are enshrouded by swaths of mountain tannin. Cimarossa is one of the most distinctive sites in Napa Valley. I can’t wait to taste this from bottle.

The Wine Independent

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Cimarossa Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon gives up chocolate-covered cherries, mulberries, and blackcurrant pastilles with underlying notes of pencil shavings and fragrant earth. Full-boded, it is rich and plush, with bags of spicy fruit and a long finish.
