Just about perfection in a glass”

Vineyard Notes

Missouri Hopper, one of Napa’s oldest vineyards, consists of 45 contiguous acres on the famed Oakville Bench in the Napa Valley. Purchased by Charles Hopper and given to his daughter Missouri in 1877, today Missouri Hopper is owned by the Beckstoffer family, and the fruit from this vineyard is some of the most sought after in the Napa Valley. Wines from the Missouri Hopper Vineyard consistently display the complex profile of power with refinement that is a hallmark of the celebrated Oakville Bench appellation.

Winemaking Notes

A gorgeous, fragrant nose of black cherry, plum and dark chocolate is washed with hints of vanilla. The full-throttled palate is reminiscent of blackberry pie along with flavors of concentrated dark fruit and silky chocolate. Hints of clove, cassis and savory herbs pepper throughout the powerful finish.

“Just about perfection in a glass, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard is another straight-up fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon from this great, great vintage. From a valley floor site just south of To Kalon, it offers La Mission Haut Brion-like notes of tobacco, lead pencil, and cold fireplace as well as sensational cassis fruit, full body, building tannins, and a deep, layered, sexy texture that needs to be tasted to be believed. It has the purity and elegance that make 2016 special yet also offers density, depth, and opulence. Don’t miss it!”

Vinous Media

“The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Missouri Hopper is a total stunner. Explosive and sumptuous, the Missouri Hopper has so much going on. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, chocolate, leather and earthy notes all run through this vivid, deeply expressive Cabernet. All the elements are simply in the right place in a gorgeous, resonant Cabernet Sauvignon that is positively singing today.”

Wine Advocate

“Pure Cabernet Sauvignon aged 22 months in 100% new French oak, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard is deep garnet- purple colored and scented of crushed blackcurrants, black cherries, scorched earth and tar with nuances of wild thyme, violets, beef drippings and cigar box. The palate is full-bodied, firm, grainy and fresh with tons of youthful black fruit and earthy layers, finishing with a compelling herbal lift.”

James Suckling

“A big and very rich red with so much fruit and intensity. Plums and blueberries. Dried dirt. Full body and chewy, polished tannins. Muscular and flexing.”
